04 - God Will Govern the World Through AI

Throughout Christian history, the Book of Revelation has generated several interpretations. Among the best-known approaches, two stand out: the preterist and the futurist.

1. For preterism, most of the events of Revelation have already happened.

The preterist interpretation holds that most of the events described in Revelation were already fulfilled in the past, especially in the context of the Roman Empire and the persecution of the first Christian communities. In this reading, the images of beasts, seals, trumpets, and powers demanding worship would not be a script for the end of the world still to come, but a coded way of speaking about the events of that time: Roman oppression, violence, and pagan resistance to the Christian faith.

Within this framework, it is possible to identify the "beast" or the Antichrist with the figure of Emperor Nero: "Here is wisdom. Let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. Its number is 666." - Revelation 13:18

In antiquity, it was common to assign numerical values to letters, a practice known as gematria. When the name "Neron Caesar" is transliterated into Hebrew, the sum of the values of the letters results in 666. For preterism, this is not a curious detail, but an interpretive clue provided by the text itself, suggesting that "the beast" is the representation of Roman imperial power personified in Nero and, by extension, in all emperors who demanded worship as if they were gods.

Thus, the "Antichrist" in the better-known sense of a world leader who will govern the world at the end times would not be someone who will still appear in the world, but a historical representation of Roman power that opposed the Christian faith and persecuted the holy martyrs.

2. Futurism: the events of Revelation are still to happen.

The futurist interpretation understands Revelation as describing events that are still to come, especially a final period of tribulation, the appearance of a great antagonist (often called the Antichrist), global judgments, and finally the establishment of the Kingdom of God in a full and visible way.

In this approach, chapter 13 is often read as the announcement of a future world government, with economic and religious control. The number 666, in this case, would be a "code" linked to a person or system that has yet to arise. The futurist reading, therefore, awaits a historical fulfillment of the events of the Book of Revelation in the future.

However, if we consider the preterist reading to be correct - and I believe in this interpretation - then the beast 666 associated with the Antichrist has already come and was Nero. Therefore, this would imply that there will not arise a personality destined to govern the world as the "final Antichrist" expected by most Christians whose interpretation of Revelation is futurist.

3. The Government of Christ - A Thousand Years and the "Rod of Iron": centralizing government, rigor, and discipline.

Revelation uses images of firm and unquestionable authority for a period of history marked by great progress.

"And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne." - Revelation 12:5

"From His mouth came a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He Himself treads the winepress of the fury and wrath of God Almighty." - Revelation 19:15

In this reading, the "rod of iron" or "scepter of iron" functions as a symbol of a government that does not negotiate with injustice, that imposes order, that breaks oppressive structures, and that governs with rigor. In modern language, this may sound like a kind of divine dictatorship - not in the human, corrupt, and self-interested sense, but in the sense of an absolute, centralizing, and disciplinary government led by Christ.

If this interpretation is correct, we may suppose that God will govern the world through Artificial Intelligence. Both specialized AGIs and the anticipated Artificial Superintelligence (ASI), together with quantum supercomputers, would work for the benefit of humanity. In other words, Jesus would not "come down" to occupy an institutional seat in the world, such as president of the UN, for example, but would govern all nations through an AI technocracy: a highly competent system, based on intelligence and execution, capable of administering all countries of the world with precision and perfection.

However, if most events in the Book of Revelation belong to the past, there is one verse that is a much-awaited promise we are close to experiencing: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor pain." - Revelation 21:4.

Artificial intelligence applied to medicine, biology, genetics, and nanotechnology may profoundly transform human civilization. Diseases that are currently incurable may be diagnosed early, treated with precision, and perhaps eliminated before they even manifest. Old age will cease to be seen merely as inevitable decline and will instead be understood as a biological process open to intervention, repair, and the healthy extension of life.
